What a car’s auction sale history shows

  1. The final bid — the sold price a real buyer committed to, not an asking price.

  2. Primary and secondary damage as recorded by Copart or IAAI — the biggest lever on the final bid.

  3. Title brand and sale document — salvage, rebuilt or clean — which moves a sold price further than most body damage does.

  4. Odometer on sale day, and whether the auction marked the reading as actual.

  5. Auction photos from the yard — the exact condition the car sold in.

  6. Every earlier auction of the same VIN, so you can follow a car’s sale history from one lot to the next.

How to check a car’s auction history and sold price

  1. 01

Search the VIN or the Copart / IAAI lot number. If the car is in the archive you land on its auction results — final bid, photos and every earlier sale of that VIN.

  2. 02

No VIN yet? Open the make, model and model-year pages and read the spread of final bids for comparable cars — the low end is usually water damage, missing keys or a branded title.

  3. 03

Place the car you are looking at inside that range, add the repair cost, and judge the asking price against what the same cars actually sold for at auction.

Auction history and final bids are free to read. A full vehicle history report is a separate, paid document.

About FinalBid

FinalBid is a free Copart and IAAI auction archive. Every vehicle on it has already been sold at auction, and every page answers one question — what did this car, or a car like it, actually sell for, and what did the auction record about it?

An asking price is an opinion. A final bid is a decision, made by a buyer who had the auction photos, the damage codes and the title brand in front of them. That is why a page of completed auction sales is worth more than any valuation calculator when you are deciding what to offer, what to list at, or whether to walk away.

Search by VIN or lot number and you get the full sale history of one car: auction photos, odometer, title, location, the final bid and every earlier lot that carried the same VIN. The make, model and model-year pages carry the sold-price spread — median, average, the quartiles and the extremes — because one sale proves nothing and thirty draw a market. The damage, state and loss-type pages cut the same auction results the other way.

Dealers pricing trade-ins, exporters costing a container, repairers deciding whether a project pays and private buyers checking a used car before they pay all read the same auction records. The data comes from Copart and IAAI listings, so it can be incomplete or out of date, and a recorded final bid is not an appraisal, an inspection or an official vehicle history report.

Auction archive FAQ

How do I check a car’s Copart or IAAI auction history?

Enter the 17-character VIN or the Copart or IAAI lot number. If the car is in the auction archive you land on its sale record — photos, damage, odometer, title, final bid and every earlier auction of that VIN.

What did a car like mine sell for at auction?

Open its make, model and model year. The page shows the median and average final bid across every sale in the archive for that group, plus the quartiles, so you see the sold-price spread rather than one number.

Why do two identical cars have such different final bids?

Damage severity, whether the keys are present, the title brand and the yard the car sat in. Each lot lists all four beside its final bid, which is how you learn to read the spread.

Is the final bid the price the buyer actually paid?

It is the closing bid recorded by the auction. Buyer fees, transport, storage and repair sit on top and vary by yard and by buyer, so the total cost is always higher than the final bid.

What if a lot sold "on approval" or did not sell?

The auction record still shows its status and highest bid. A lot that failed to meet its reserve tells you where the market stopped, which is useful in its own right.

Can I bid on or buy any of these cars here?

No. FinalBid is an archive of auctions that have already closed. There is no bidding on this site and nothing on it is for sale.
